Our Story

Founded on a Radical Idea

Saint Mary's Christian University was founded with a vision that most institutions considered impossible: give every student, regardless of geography or financial background, the same quality of one-to-one educational support that was historically reserved for the privileged few. Based in St. Petersburg, Florida, St. Mary's is not simply an online university. It is an AI-powered, faith-integrated higher education institution that provides every enrolled student with a personal AI tutor, available around the clock by voice and text, contextually aware of every lesson, and designed to guide comprehension in real time.

The research behind this approach is well established. In 1984, educational researcher Benjamin Bloom published his landmark 2-Sigma study demonstrating that students who received one-to-one tutoring performed two standard deviations better than students in traditional classrooms. The problem was always scale: you cannot hire a personal tutor for every student. Until now. St. Mary's was built from the ground up to solve Bloom's problem using AI, delivering individualized tutoring at scale while keeping faith at the center of every interaction.

What began as a bold experiment has grown into a comprehensive university offering a Bachelor of Arts in Educational Anthropology and Christian Studies degree across 24 modules, a TESOL professional certificate, three distinct learning modes, seven methods of assessment, and an integrated GPA system. Every piece of the platform was designed to serve students who are balancing work, family, ministry, and study, often from countries where access to quality higher education is limited or unaffordable. St. Mary's exists because we believe that access to excellent education is a matter of justice, and that AI is the tool God has provided to make it possible.

Our Vision

Where We Are Headed

St. Mary's is pioneering a new category of higher education: the AI-native university. While other institutions are retrofitting AI tools onto legacy systems, St. Mary's was designed from day one with AI at the core. Our vision is to be recognized globally as the institution that proved AI-powered education can maintain rigorous academic standards, deep Christian values, and genuine human connection, all while making quality education accessible to students who would otherwise be excluded by geography, economics, or learning differences.

We see a future where every St. Mary's graduate enters the world not only with a credential but with a learning experience that was genuinely personalized to their needs. Where a working mother in Lagos receives the same quality of educational support as a full-time student in London. Where a neurodivergent learner in Manila finds a platform that adapts to how they think, not the other way around. This is the future we are building, and we invite students, faculty, and partners from around the world to join us in making it real.

Technology & Theology

AI Meets Faith

At St. Mary's, we do not see a tension between cutting-edge technology and Christian faith. We see a calling. The Great Commission instructs us to teach all nations, and for two millennia, the Church has adopted every available tool to fulfill that mission, from the printing press to radio to the internet. Artificial intelligence is the next chapter in that story. Our AI tutor does not replace the Holy Spirit's work in a student's life; it removes the practical barriers that have kept millions of capable, faithful learners from accessing the education they deserve.

Every AI interaction at St. Mary's is supervised by faculty, grounded in curriculum designed by theologians and educators, and governed by ethical principles rooted in Scripture. The AI does not form doctrine. It does not replace pastoral care. It does not make judgments about a student's faith. What it does is answer questions at 2 AM when a student in a different time zone is studying after putting their children to bed. It provides patient, judgment-free repetition for a student who needs to hear a concept explained three different ways. It checks comprehension so that no student moves forward without truly understanding the material. Technology in service of the Kingdom: that is the St. Mary's approach.

Our Approach

What Sets St. Mary's Apart

AI-Powered Learning

Every student receives a personal AI tutor available 24/7 by voice and text. Contextually aware of your lesson content, it answers questions, clarifies concepts, and checks your understanding through conversational checkpoints.

Three Learning Modes

Read, Watch, or Listen. Every lesson is available in all three formats so you can choose the mode that fits your learning style, your schedule, or your environment at any given moment.

Seven Assessment Methods

Quizzes, AI conversational checkpoints, essays, assignments, dissertations, practical projects, and cumulative GPA tracking. Multiple methods ensure every student can demonstrate their understanding.

Faith Integration

Every program intentionally weaves Christian principles into the learning experience. Scripture and theology are not add-ons; they are woven into the fabric of every module and every assessment.

Inclusive by Design

Built to serve neurodivergent learners, international students, working parents, and mature learners. Multiple modes, self-pacing, and voice interaction ensure nobody is left behind by a one-size-fits-all approach.

Global Community

St. Mary's is designed to serve students from around the world, bringing diverse cultural and theological perspectives to every classroom conversation, all rooted in a shared Christian faith.

Leading the Way

Leadership in Innovation

St. Mary's occupies a unique position in higher education: small enough to innovate rapidly, principled enough to innovate responsibly. While larger institutions debate whether to allow AI in the classroom, St. Mary's has already built an entire university around it. Our platform features pre-rendered AI checkpoints that eliminate student-side latency, a TTS pipeline that generates audio content at admin time rather than student time, a podcast system that converts every lesson into commute-ready audio, and a voice tutor that lets students interact with their AI companion using natural speech. None of these features exist as bolt-on products; they are integrated into the core learning experience.

This commitment to innovation is not about technology for its own sake. It is about stewardship. Every feature we build is measured against a single question: does this help a student learn better? If the answer is no, it does not ship. If the answer is yes, we build it, test it, and deploy it, often in a matter of weeks. This agility, combined with rigorous faculty oversight and a deep commitment to Christian values, is what makes St. Mary's not just an early adopter but a genuine leader in the future of education.
